Welcome to Jaishankar's Cyber Home

of Criminology and Criminal Justice

 

I am currently an Assistant Professor (Senior) at the Department of  Criminology and Criminal Justice, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India. Until recently I was a Commonwealth Fellow at the Centre for Criminal Justice Studies, School of Law, University of Leeds, UK. My areas of academic competence are Cyber Criminology, Victimology, Crime Mapping, Geographic Information Systems (GIS),   Communal Violence & Terrorism, Theoretical Criminology, Policing, and Crime prevention.

 

I have founded the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology (SASCV) which works with the motto "promoting criminology and victimology in the South Asian region".

 

 

I am also the General Chair of the forthcoming First International Conference of SASCV, to be held during January 15 -17, 2011 at Jaipur, India.

 

Along with Debarati Halder, I have co-founded and launched the first ever Cyber Victim Counselling Centre of India "Centre for Cyber Victim Counselling"

 

 

I am a Co-Investigator of an International grant funded by Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada to develop a profile of cyber-bullying, inform the current policy vacuum, and develop guidelines to help schools address cyber-bullying.

 

Among the recent books I have written / (co) edited are: International Perspectives on Crime and Justice (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK, 2009), Cyber Bullying: Profile and Policy Guidelines (DOCCJ, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, India, 2009), Trends and Issues of Victimology (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, UK, 2008), Crime Victims and Justice: An Introduction to Restorative Principles (Serial Publications, New Delhi, 2008).

I enjoy singing, listening music, and playing with my sweet daughter, . Mriganayani. My wife Debarati Halder, ML,  a Lawyer, stands as a great moral and intellectual support in all my research ventures.
